Education

Annual national education indicators for Syria: out-of-school rates, enrolment ratios, literacy, completion, school life expectancy, and public spending on education—signals of the war’s toll on schooling and the sector’s recovery.

One source, national and annual

Every figure here comes from the UNESCO Institute for Statistics as national, both-sexes annual values — signals of the war's toll on schooling and where recovery is, and is not, visible. Some series are recent; others have not been reported for years.

The gap widens with every step up the ladder

Being out of school is not one rate but three: it climbs from primary to lower- to upper-secondary age. The chart shows all three age bands for the latest year from the same source.

Explore and download the series

Filter the period from the filter bar, then download the annual table from any chart menu as CSV or Excel. A blank means the source published no value, not zero.

Reading limits

These are national, both-sexes values with no governorate breakdown. Reference years differ sharply between indicators — a few are more than a decade old — so a card's value belongs to its own latest year, and a change against a distant prior year is not an annual movement.
